Leeds Rhinos Women scored ten tries to earn a big win in their opening game of the 2024 Betfred Women's Challenge Cup campaign.
Shona Hoyle, Grace Field, Liv Whitehead, Ella Donnelly and Beth Macmillan who all joined the club ahead of the season all made their first appearances for the club and Hoyle and Whitehead marked the occasion with debut tries.
Sophie Robinson got her team started, finishing off a well worked try in the corner after just two minutes. Leeds kept up the pressure and were rewarded when Zoe Hornby forced her way over under the posts from close range and Ruby Enright extended the lead with the conversion.
Shona Hoyle kept up the pressure and made a great break before passing to Caitlin Casey in support and scrum half raced clear for the third try of the game. Three minutes later Leeds were in again when Bethan Dainton broke her way through the Leopards defence to slide over.
The hosts hit back after a period of pressure in the Leeds half and they were able to spread the ball out wide to Toryn Blackwood who found space to go over in the corner. Leeds responded to see them go in at the break with a 28-4 lead when Lucy Murray broke her line after a perfectly timed pass from Hanna Butcher, Enright adding the conversion.
Liv Whitehead got the scoreboard rolling early after the restart when she crashed over in the corner for her first try for the club. This was followed by a lengthy break in play for a Leigh player to receive medical treatment on the field.
When play resumed the Rhinos picked up where they had left off with another try on debut for Hoyle who worked her way through the opposition defence following a good break from Casey. Enright successfully kicked the extras before going over for a try after a slick out back pass from Butcher to send the full back away in the corner.
A great team play off the back of Jasmine Cudjoe's jump from nine set up Tara Moxon for her first try effortless play from Zoe Hornby led to her second try of the afternoon. Enright kicked the conversion to wrap up the 52-4 win.
