On this Day – 13th December

On the 13th December in in 1946 former Leeds player Peter Fozzard was born in 1947, in 1981 Leeds recorded their fifth league win of the season against Whitehaven and in 1992 Leeds were on the road to face Sheffield Eagles.

ON THIS DAY in 1946 ex Leeds forward Peter Fozzard was born. He made his debut against Swinton in 1966 in the BBC2 Floodlit Trophy and went on to make 22 appearances for the club. His son Nick also went on to play for Leeds 46 times before joining Huddersfield and then Warrington and St Helens.

ON THIS DAY in 1981 Leeds recorded their fifth league win of the season against Whitehaven at Headingley. It was the Loiners home form that season that was the teams saving grace, they had lost just once at home on the first day of the season against Wigan, but away from home had been a different story, losing five of their away games.

David Hesslewood, Keith Rayne, Mark Massa, John Holmes and David Ward all scored a try for Leeds in this match and Kevin Dick landed four goals to bring the final score to 23-13.

ON THIS DAY in 1992 Leeds were on the road to face Sheffield Eagles. Leeds had not managed to win their last three games and on this occasion the men from South Yorkshire inflicted the Loiners their ninth defeat of the season. Ellery Hanley scored a brace of tries and Gary Mercer added one more but Kevin Iro was only able to add one conversion and Leeds lost 31-14.
