Rhinos legends reunite on the 2018 UK Red Ride to Wembley

Keith Senior and Chev Walker are set to rekindle their double-act by becoming the centres of attention on the 2018 UK Red Ride to Wembley for Rugby League Cares.
The former Leeds Rhinos stars were involved in last year’s epic fundraising cycling challenge from Headingley to Wembley and will once again show their support for RL Cares this August.
As he did in 2017, Chev will take time out from his role with the Rhinos to ride at least a couple of days of the 300-mile off-road course from Old Trafford to the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup final.
Keith will be there for the duration of the ride between Monday August 20 and Friday August 24 – albeit from the relative comfort of a seat behind the wheel of one of the support vehicles.
“My partner, Emily Colbourne is doing the full ride this year and I’ll be driving a support van,” said Keith.
“I loved every minute of the ride last year – well, almost every minute! – and I’m really looking forward to helping the riders get through a tough week for a brilliant cause.
“I’ll be dealing with a lot of the logistics involved in moving the equipment and nutrition the riders need through the day, as well as offering words of encouragement and, when it’s needed, well-aimed banter!”
Emily said Keith’s experience on last year’s ride had prompted her to take to two wheels on the Ride to Wembley.
“Keith said it was fantastic and I thought ‘Why should he have all the fun?’ so I jumped at the chance to join the Ride to Wembley when it came up,” said Emily, an accounts director with Global Media, the parent company of Capital Radio.
“I was there to welcome greet and the other riders when they arrived at the Wembley statue last year and as weary as they all were, the sense of achievement they felt at having done something special for a great cause shone through.”
Chev, the Head of Player Production and assistant coach at Leeds Rhinos, can’t wait to get back in the saddle to help RL Cares raise the funds it needs to fulfil its important role supporting the whole Rugby League family.
“I did the first two days of the Ride to Wembley last year and absolutely loved it,” said Chev. “It was a really tough couple of days and though I was knackered, it was a real wrench having to come home on the Tuesday night to get back to work.
“The work RL Cares does in the sports is incredible and I’m pleased to have this opportunity to support a great charity which really does make a difference to people’s lives.
“I hope the public gets behind the ride and everyone involved in it: the blood, sweat and tears the riders go through is worth a few pounds of every Rugby League fan’s money!”
Chev and Keith will join former Hull FC captain Gareth Ellis and ex-Castleford Tigers skipper Andy Lynch along with 18 other riders on the UK Red Ride to Wembley, which finishes at the Wembley Legends statue on the stadium concourse around 2.00pm on Friday August 24, the eve of the 2018 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup final.
