Matchday searches and bag policy at Leeds Rhinos

29th March 2018 | 3:00 pm

By Phil Daly

Leeds Rhinos take the safety of our supporters very seriously. For 2018 and under a recommendation from a security aspect, we have made important changes to help ensure the safety of all supporters, visitors and staff at Emerald Headingley Stadium. These include enhancing the searching of supporters at the turnstiles on a matchday. This means that entry to the stadium may take longer and as a result it is likely that queues may occur, however we will do all we can to keep things moving.

We request that supporters do not bring bags to the stadium to avoid these search processes which could cause delays. If you do bring a bag it will be subject to a full search and will be tagged once the search is complete.

We are recommending that supporters do not bring a bag that is bigger than an A4 piece of paper. We know that supporters bring rucksacks / backpacks which are bigger than the recommended size and therefore these will be searched and tagged – the tag must remain on the bag throughout the match. If a bag is seen inside the ground without a tag it will be necessary for it to be searched and left in a secure area for collection after the match.

If the security staff deem a bag to be too large then it will be tagged and taken to a secure area for the duration of the match and will need to be collected after the game. We are aware that fans need to bring items for children who are participating in match day activity and this will be taken into consideration.

These search measures have been introduced to try and ensure supporters can enjoy a safe environment.  The Club and their agents will deliver this policy firmly but politely and with understanding.  The support of all supporters in delivering this policy successfully would be much appreciated.
