The Rhinos Academy team took part in a joint training session with Leeds Rhinos Netball players at Leeds Beckett University.

13 players from the Under-19s side along with 11 netball players participated in the training session that was coached by Leeds Rhinos Netball’s head coach, Anna Carter with support from the Rhinos coaching staff, including Adrian Morley.

Simon Bell, Rhinos’ Head of Youth Development said: “The session was really beneficial for our players. The idea behind this was for our Under-19s to hone their skills by playing a different sport and working with another coach.

“Playing netball has helped the players with hand-eye coordination, catching and passing as well as communication skills through mixing and playing alongside new people.  The players and coaches both got a lot from the session and were really enthusiastic afterwards.  Later in the year we will be joining up again and inviting the netball players to join us for a rugby league training session.”

The Leeds Rhinos Netball team was launched earlier this year and sees them deliver training hubs, camps and workshops across the region and beyond with the ultimate aim of securing a Superleague franchise.  The venture has been supported by Leeds Rhinos and their charity, the Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

Leading Leeds Rhinos Netball is former Yorkshire Jets head coach, ex-international player and current England technical coach Anna Carter.

Speaking about working alongside the Rhinos Academy Carter said: “I really enjoyed working with a mixed group of players who share a lot of common ground on hand eye coordination, special awareness, movement and communication. The energy that both groups brought to the session was great and a very worthwhile venture for all involved. Leeds Rhinos Netball look forward to a return effort where Leeds Rhinos Rugby Under-19s lead a session where we can continue to learn from each other.”
