Leeds hit the ground running and after charging down Hulls kick on their last tackle found themselves with a full set of tackles starting on halfway. They took full advantage of the field position using only a couple of tackles before Sonny Hetherington found himself throwing a dummy pass to his winger forcing the Hull defence to separate just enough for the young centre to dive over and score the first try of the game.

Leeds was strong in defence, and this was forcing Hull to kick deep from in their open half to ease the pressure on themselves which Leeds took advantage of again minutes later when they extended their lead with opposite centre Jacob Tooala breaking down the middle and beating the Hull full back to score under the posts, Mears adding the extra’s to give Leeds a ten point lead.
The young Rhinos were showing no signs of rustiness when with only 16 minutes on the clock they extended their lead even further with stand-off Jack Mears in almost a similar fashion to Sonny Hetherington found the try line on the left edge.

Only midway through the half Leeds added even more points to the scoreboard this time Robin Smith charging over from close range in typical prop forward fashion and with the extras added by Mears leads were 20-0 ahead with as many minutes on the clock.
Leeds was in clear control, but Hull weren’t dead and buried just yet and after finally finding themselves in dangerous territory Hull weren’t letting this opportunity pass them when hooker Leo Williams took full advantage of the markers switching off to scoot over from dummy half to score, with the extras being added from Owen Bartle Hull had six points in answer to the Rhinos 20.
Hull had the bit between their teeth and looked to go around the Rhinos defensive line, but winger Bailey Hardy had other ideas bundling the Hull winger in to touch just inside the Hull half.

Leeds beginning their set in the Hull half could smell more points and looked to score down their left flank again having earlier success, this time full back Sam Oldroyd would be the benefactor squeezing through the Hull defence from close range to score the try with Jack Mears again adding the extras giving the home side a 26-6 lead at halftime.

Leeds certainly started the second half in similar fashion to the first and straight from kick-off a huge shot from Ben Smith forced a knock on from Hull and put the Rhinos in dangerous territory with a full set of six tackles. But the young Rhinos didn’t need all of them after quick hands pushed the ball from the right to the left with ease finding centre Sonny Hetherington who dived over to score his second try of the game with ease.

That would be where Leeds’ dominance would end however, and Hull would find their grip in the fixture, and it would be the side from East Yorkshire that scored next with 50 minutes on the clock after a bulldozing run from forward Jethro Attah-Boakye down the middle which Leeds had no answer for allowed the prop to score beside the posts and with a successful conversion the Hull side trailed by 18  with the score at 30-12.

Leeds then hit back when prop forward Robin Smith stretched his arm out to score from close range, Mears again adding the extras Leeds pushed themselves further ahead again but with the halfway point in the second half approaching the away side would hit back,
After a break down the right edge was stopped by Rhinos fullback Sam Oldroyd, you’d be forgiven for thinking hull had thrown away the opportunity but on the last tackle a quick switch back to the blind side allowed the black and whites to squeeze over in the corner and Bartle again successfully kicking the conversion put the score at 36-18
With 15 minutes left on the clock Leeds scored their final points of the night in spectacular fashion with quick hands to the right finding winger Noah Sheriffe with space to run in to only to be stopped inches from the Hull try line. But a quick play the ball put the Rhinos further infield before another quick pass finding prop Will Mathers to score the easiest try, he will probably score in a Rhinos jersey just catching the pass and putting it down under the posts.

Mears again adding the extras.
Credit to Hull though as they continued to fight and were rewarded with a conciliation try from Jacob Last some how crashing over from close range with a tired defence ahead of him, but it would be too much on the night for Hull and the young Rhinos began their season with a big win.
