Opposition Overview
A difficult start to 2025 sees Huddersfield sit bottom of the league table after five rounds, and clashes against Hull KR and Catalans prior to their arrival at AMT Headingley in round eight doesn't make the season any easier for Luke Robinson.
Robinson was confirmed as the club's head coach after the club managed ten wins in 2024, and further investment in the squad looked to give the former Giants player a strong foundation to compete in his first year at the helm. Ten departures at the end of the season was met with the arrival of Liam Sutcliffe from Hull FC, George King from Hull KR and Zac Woolford, Tom Burgess, Jacob Gagai and Taane Milne from the NRL, before they opened their campaign with a 34-6 win over Championship side Hunslet in the Challenge Cup.
The Betfred Super League season has been a different story as they've lost five straight games after leading in four of them at half time. Tui Lolohea and Joe Greenwood's tries either side of half time saw the Giants put pressure on Sam Burgess' Warrington side, who eventually prevailed 20-12 on the road before a second half comeback from Leigh Leopards cancelled out Oliver Wilson's try in round two.
A clash with Hull FC in round three was the closest Huddersfield have come to securing league points as they led the black and whites in a tight contest but eventually fell victim to a 90-metre interception try from Harvey Barron and a drop goal from Aidan Sezer in the closing stages. Wigan's return from a win in Las Vegas saw the Cherry and White's pick up a 44-18 triumph thanks to two tries from Liam Farrell against the claret and golds, and Salford also came away with a result in round five to put the Giants in a tough spot.
Adam Swift has been a shining light so far as he leads the club with six tries in seven games. Robinson also hasn't been afraid to give the club's youngest talents a chance to peform and George Flanagan Jr has already caught the spotlight with his try and six goals in five games. Jack Billington and Fenton Rogers have also played the majority of the season so far and are both still 21 and 20 years of age.
A meeting with Hull KR in round six is the first of two home games where Huddersfield can get back on track as they host Catalans after the Cup break. A visit to AMT Headingley has been eventful in the past, including last year's comeback win for the Giants, before they also host Castleford to round off April.
