Rhinos Rewind: Hull FC

Ahead of Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC going head to head on Sunday, we've gone into the archives to pull out a clash for the ages between the two clubs, and a player that represented both the Hull FC and the Rhinos during their careers.

Take a look...

Classic Clash

The opening game of the 2005 season saw Leeds back up their World Club Challenge win over Canterbury with a tight 16-12 win over Hull FC in the first game of the season.

Chev Walker and Marcus Bai crossed in the first half to give Leeds a slender 12-2 lead at the break, but despite a further try from Keith Senior, the Rhinos had to weather a storm from the black and whites who mounted a comeback to close the score to 16-12 at full time.

Played in both shirts - Liam Sutcliffe

Coming through the academy system at Leeds as a half back, Liam Sutcliffe wore Rhinos colours for a decade in the Betfred Super League.

He debuted against St Helens in May 2013 and soon had his first piece of silverware as he came off the bench to win the 2014 Challenge Cup against Castleford. After serving as Kevin Sinfield's apprentice during the 2015 season, he featured in the halves and at full back in 2016 but made the switch out to centre in 2017, a season in which he claimed his sole Grand Final winners medal. In 2020, he added a second Challenge Cup honour to his name in a 17-16 win over Salford Red Devils too.

After featuring at Old Trafford in the 2022 Grand Final, Sutcliffe brought down the curtain on his time at Headingley to move east to join Hull FC. Now in his second season at the club, he has played five times so far during this Super League campaign and has two tries that both came against Huddersfield.
