Hundreds of children take part in Dance Spectacular at Headingley
Last month, 777 children from local schools took part in a Dance Spectacular on the pitch at Headingley Stadium as part of the club's MND Round in support of the MND Association.
The Dance Spectacular was choregraphed by Leeds Rhinos Foundation's Dance Development Officer Nicola Booth and schools spent hours learning the dance to perform in front of the Rhinos fans and the Sky TV cameras. The spectacular was made possible thanks to a partnership between Leeds Rhinos Foundation, Leeds Rhinos and the Leeds Well Schools Partnership, which provides a city-wide offer to support primary schools in Leeds with PE, School Sport and Physical Activity.
The Dance was led by Macy and Maya Burrow, the daughters of Rhinos great Rob, and Rhinos mascot Ronnie the Rhino also joined in the routine.
Speaking about the success of the performance Booth said: “The Dance Spectacular has been a feature at Rhinos games for several years now, but this year's was extra special. It was for Rob and his family. Rob was my focus for the music and for the participants involved.
"It was an ambitious idea, but everyone agreed it had to be done and played their part to pull it off. It was an incredible moment, one that school staff, children, parents and I will remember forever.”
Jill Wilkinson, Leeds Well Schools Partnership Director, was equally pleased with the event and added: “What a fantastic event. It was so rewarding to see the pupils and staff from the Leeds Well Schools Partnership being part of this. The smiles on the children’s faces and the hugs at the end of the performance said it all – a great experience for a great cause. Thank you to everyone who was involved in making this a Dance Spectacular to remember.”
