Agar says final decision yet to be made on team for restart

Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Richard Agar says he and the coaching team are still waiting to make the final decision on the make up the squad to face Huddersfield Giants at Emerald Headingley on Sunday as the Betfred Super League restarts, kick off 6.30pm live on Sky Sports.

Agar spoke to the media on Tuesday morning in a joint virtual press conference with Giants opposite number Simon Woolford and he revealed that there are a couple of selection head aches that will be resolved in the coming days.

He commented, “We are probably down to 18 or 19 players now but it has been tough as we have got nearly a fully fit squad. Jack Walker is a couple of weeks away from a return from his foot injury whilst Stevie Ward is still sidelined indefinitely with his head injury. However, Tom Briscoe is fit and ready to go, he was due back when we were scheduled to play Catalans just before lockdown and Kruise Leeming is in contention to make his debut against his old club.

“Obviously the time away will be a factor in deciding who is ready to go come Sunday but also the new rules and how that will impact our players, particularly the guys in the middle,” added Agar.

The Rhinos boss also confirmed that the team, like other Super League sides, had had the benefit of the members of the RFL’s match officials team at training on Monday to discuss the new rules that will come in from Sunday.
