Debut: Vs Leigh Leopards (H) 5/4/2025
Honours -
Leeds Rhinos Women signed former State of Origin player Melanie Howard ahead of the 2025 Betfred Women’s Super League season, and a highlight year saw her finish as the club's player of the year.
Debuting against Leigh Leopards in the Challenge Cup group stages, Howard didn't miss a game throughout Leeds' season as she accumulated 12 tries, 65 goals and 178 points (the latter of which were team highs). After scoring at least one try in all four of the Rhinos' Cup games before bowing out to Wigan, Howard finished second in the Betfred Women's Super League competition for her points and goals tally in what was a stellar first season in blue and amber.
The Australian-born half-back has played for St George Illawarra Dragons and Sydney Roosters in NRLW, and more featured for Newcastle Knights in the Harvey Normans Women's Premiership before moving to Leeds. She played in the 2020 NRLW Grand Final for Sydney against Brisbane and earned a call up to represent New South Wales in that year’s State of Origin game. She has also played for the Australian Rugby League Prime Ministers 13 internationally.
Howard has also enjoyed a successful Sevens Rugby Union career, winning the NSW 7 National Championship.
