DEBUT:
Second rower Oliver Smart has only been part of the Rhinos set up for a short time, but the former Siddal junior has impressed the Leeds staff in the last twelve months to earn himself a full-time contract for 2026.
Smart was scouted by Leeds ahead of the 2024 Under-18s season and spent 12 months in the Academy competition, during which he played five games. He also added a sole outing for the Reserves before stepping up become a part-time player in the Reserves grade for the 2025 campaign. That season's Grand Final success saw Smart play an important part in Chev Walker's side as he played all 13 games - including the final against Warrington - and as he trained regularly with the Academy squad, he was a key mentor for first-year players who were finding their feet in the Academy programme.
His work didn't go unnoticed as he agreed to a one-year deal with the Rhinos for the 2026 season, which sees him join the transition group who train alongside the first team.
