Huddersfield born, Harry joined the Rhinos Scholarship in 2014.  He is a former pupil at Holmfirth High School and played for Newsome Panthers. He made his debut during the 2017 season against Wigan and was rewarded with more game time in 2018.

He spent time on dual registration with Featherstone in 2018 where he was in sensational form, scoring 16 tries in 12 games. For 2019, Newman broke into the first team, making 22 starts throughout the campaign. Starting away at Hull FC, and with Kallum Watkins departing for Gold Coast Titans midway through the season, the centre soon became a regular on the team sheet and earned the club's Young Player of the Year award as well as a call-up to the England Knights squad.

For 2020, he was rewarded with the number three shirt and a remarkable season saw him win Super League's Young Player of the Year award. During the 2021 season, he recorded four tries and two goals in 14 appearances, but the 2022 season was injury-hampered as he played only seven games. Returning with a try in a 26-0 win over Wakefield Trinity in round four of the 2023 season, the centre dealt with a mid-season hamstring injury to feature 16 times and he added two tries against Catalans Dragons and Wigan Warriors in two particular stand out performances. The end of the 2023 season saw Newman make his England debut as part of Shaun Wane's side for the series that faced off against Tonga. Starting in the centres in the 22-18 win at the Totally Wicked Stadium, he played in all three tests, including the 26-4 win at Headingley when he scored the final try of the game.

2024 saw Newman record his most appearances in a single season for the Rhinos as the centre went on to achieved international honours again. In his 23 appearances for Leeds, he racked up eight tries in all competitions, including a long range effort against St Helens in the Challenge Cup. He was also a try scorer in huge wins against Wigan, Hull FC and Huddersfield as the side made a late push for the Play Offs, before earning a place in the England squad for both test wins over Samoa.

As well as playing Rugby League Harry has also represented West Yorkshire in Rugby Union and Kirklees in Athletics.  In 2013 he came second in the 300m in the Y10 Athletics Yorkshire Games. His childhood hero was Jonny Wilkinson and apart from supporting the Rhinos he also follows West Ham. Harry's ambition after he has finished playing rugby is to own business and he says the biggest influence on his career has been his dad.
