Winger Neil Tchamambe is an exciting outside back that will play in the Rhinos Under-18s Academy in 2023.
After being encouraged to start playing by his school rugby coach, Tchamambe joined community club Leeds Irish Clovers, alongside Rhinos team mate Jack Johnson. He remembers in his first game almost scoring a length of the field try. He also played in the national final in 2018 for Corpus Christi, which is his favourite rugby memory. His brother also used to play rugby for Bradford Bulls and Tchamambe says he is his biggest influence.
Like some of his academy team mates, the winger's development under scholarship head coach Mark Butterill was put on hold due to the Covid pandemic cancelling all matches in his first season. After a year of working hard from home, thanks to the club's academy staff, Tchamambe played his first game in a Leeds shirt in 2021 and scored two tries in a 26-12 win over Hull FC for the Rhinos' under-17s team.
In 2022, the winger had an exceptional season. Along with being one of the names on the team sheet every week, Tchamambe's scoring record went through the roof as he recorded eleven tries. He was also part of the side that lifted the Academy Grand Final trophy at the end of the season. He also had game time with the Reserves, where he scored three tries over three matches.
Away from rugby, Tchamambe is studying A-Levels at Notre Dame sixth-form college.
