Full back Evie Cousins moved into the Rhinos first team from the club's academy ahead of the 2023 season.
Despite spending 2023 on the side lines, Cousins made a quick return to action as she marked her first team debut in 2024 with two tries against Warrington Wolves in the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup quarter finals. Her scoring run continued a week later as she recorded a hat trick on her Betfred Women's Super League debut against Huddersfield Giants at AMT Headingley, before going on to finish the season with 12 tries in all competitions. That season, she also appeared in her first major final when she took to the Wembley field in the Challenge Cup Final.
First inspired to start playing after watching her brothers play Rugby Union, she joined West Park and played for the boys' team before later discovering her passion for Rugby League with Guiseley Rangers. She's played for multiple clubs around Leeds, including East Leeds and West Leeds, before trialling for the Rhinos Academy in 2021. During the 2022 season, she played in three games, but particularly scored a hat trick in a 62-4 win over Castleford, but her 2023 season was marred with an ankle injury suffered whilst playing for the Academy.
Cousins is also a part of England's Students and DiSE programmes.
The Wetherby Whaler is a family owned chain of fish and chip restaurants and takeaways. The business was founded by Phillip and Janine Murphy in Tadcaster in 1969. Originally a traditional fish and chip takeaway serving the local community, it was here that we learnt our trade and developed our skills and knowledge that enabled us to prosper. It was this original experience that enabled us to focus on two guided principles that developed to become the foundation for the ‘whaler experience’. These principles are always using quality haddock without skin and bone, cooked in the crispiest batter with Maris Piper potatoes, and warm friendly service with a smile.
