Ben Jones

Head of Academy Strength and Conditioning


Ben originally started working for Leeds Rhinos in 2008. His current role is to oversee science services across the U19, U16, Women’s rugby league, and netball programmes. Ben also supervises the PhD students and Postdoctoral Research Fellows who work at Leeds Rhinos.
Ben is a Professor of Sports Physiology and Performance at Leeds Beckett University. He has published over 95 scientific peer-review publications since 2014, and is frequently invited to present at international conferences. He also co-edited the book; Science of Sport: Rugby.
Ben is an accredited strength and conditioning coach (UKSCA), and in 2017 was voted UK Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year for Research and Education.
In addition to his roles at Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Beckett University, Ben holds consultancy roles with the Rugby Football League (Research and Innovation Manager) and Yorkshire Carnegie Rugby Union (Head of Academy Science and Research). He also supervises postgraduate research students and research staff in a number of other Super League and Premiership Rugby Union clubs, and also in the RFL and RFU.
