Leeds Rhinos Women made it back to back wins in the Women’s Super League with a convincing win against bottom placed York City Knights Ladies.

A slightly contentious call would see Leeds lose out on scoring first points in the sixth minute, Courtney Hill shipping the ball wide to centre Chloe Kerrigan, the Rhinos number 16 deemed to have failed to have grounded the ball in the act of scoring and try chalked off.

It wouldn’t take long for Leeds to register the games opening points with Hanna Butcher opening the scoring. Leeds sending the ball up the middle before spotting numbers out to the right, the ball shifted to Butcher who dummied her way over, Hill converting.

York had their best chance of the half 18 minutes in, when the Loose Forward spotted a gap and raced clear, the York player wrestled to the ground by the ever reliable Caitlin Beevers, one tackle later Chloe Kerrigan would throw herself on a sloppy ball and defuse the danger.

Another huge chance would just escape the clutches of the Rhinos, from a scrum on the York 10 metre line. The ball stripped by Ellie Oldroyd, Hill throwing a booming cut out ball but the pass unable to be gathered in on the right edge.

10 minutes before halftime the York line would succumb to the Rhinos attacking onslaught, Courtney Hill lofting the kick towards the corner on the last tackle, the York winger spilling the ball and Char Booth dropping on the loose ball to score, Hill unable to convert making it 10-0.

Shannon Lacey would be cruelly denied after fending her way over the York fullback but then tripping over the prone player after a surging 40 metre solo effort, the ball then shipped to C. Hill to slide over and grab her first of the day, the kick then converted by Courtney Hill.

Courtney Hill would then create something out of nothing, the play seeming to break down as all options were quickly closed off, Hill then showing an incredible turn of pace to find herself in a two on one position with Chloe Kerrigan, Hill drawing the fullback and putting the centre over into the corner. Hill converting from the touchline to send Leeds out to a 22-0 lead at the half.

Leeds had picked up where they left off in the first half and Courtney Hill seemed to have picked up where she left off last week, the electrifying halfback grabbed her fifth try in two games against York. Going from the base of the scrum 20 metres out on the blind side, showing incredible fleet of foot and composure to beat the onrushing line and score, the try once more converted.

The Rhinos defensive efforts would soon begin to contribute to the scoreline as Leeds forced the error on the York line. The ball then going through the hands and finding Suze Hill on the right edge to join the ever growing list of Rhinos scorers, C. Hill with the conversion from the wing to make it 34-0.

The Rhinos were not done yet. Sophie Nuttall powered her way over with a fantastic show of strength and quick footwork to squeeze her way over from close range with 15 minutes left to play, the kick this time unable to be converted.

Courntey Hill’s kicking game had wreaked havoc all afternoon and yet again, it would be her boot that would cause the Knights to come unstuck. Hill drilling an attacking grubber into the in goal area, York spilling the ball and Fran Goldthorp coming up with the ball for the latest four pointer, the kick converted by Hill notching Leeds out to a 44-0 margin.

Leeds held out late goal line pressure as York went looking for their first points of the afternoon, concurrent penalties causing the tackled count to rise. the Rhinos defence showing fantastic strength and once more forcing the error.

Hanna Butcher would close the game out with her second try of the afternoon, the Yorkshire representative halfback skipping past the defensive line to score out on the right edge, Courtney Hill unable to convert. The Rhinos claiming the two competition points at a scoreline of 50-0.
