Workington Town 18 Leeds Rhinos 68

Leeds Rhinos began the Road to Cardiff with a 68-18 romp against Workington Town at Derwent Park.

The Rhinos were always expected to see off their National League Two opponents, and the result was never in doubt after they took a commanding 46-0 interval lead.

Barrie McDermott opened the scoring for the Rhinos, and Mark Calderwood scorched up the wing for the first of his two tries.

Willie Poching extended Leeds' lead to 16-0 before Francis Cummins crossed for a brace, and Chris McKenna, Rob Burrow and Calderwood added further first half scores.

Jamie Jones-Buchanan's try brought up the half century before Workington pulled back tries through Martin Stalker and Brett Smith, Gareth Skillen converting both efforts.

Chev Walker and Chris Feather restored Leeds' advantage, and Matt Diskin added their 12th – and final – try before Graeme Lewthwaite had the final say for the home side.

Kevin Sinfield ended the game with nine goals for the Rhinos, with Burrow kicking the final conversion.
