Leeds Rhinos Women U19 26 Yorkshire Origin Championship 38

Leeds Rhinos Women’s U19s suffered their first defeat against an experienced Yorkshire Origin Championship side at Oulton Raiders. It was a tough contest between the Academy and the Yorkshire Championship side in game with some great attacking plays and brutal collisions. 26-26 with eight minutes to go it was anyones game.

Yorkshire were the first to score powering over the line. The Academy went on to score the next try, Abby Eatock on debut caught the ball on her own line and danced her way through the defence to run the full length of the pitch to score underneath the sticks. This was followed by Mia Clarke and Ellena Powell both powering over from close range. The last action of the first half was from Lucy Murray who picked up a loose ball and ran sixty metres to score underneath the posts. Abbie Spencer with two conversions The Academy were in control leading at halftime with a score of 20-4.

The second half only saw one try from the Academy from another long range effort from Abby Eatock racing down the touchline to score her second try of the game with Abbie Spencer converting. Yorkshire’s comeback had started they got more possession down in the academy’s half and scored twenty two unanswered points which brought the game to 26-26 with eight minutes to go. Brilliant defensive efforts from the Academy just weren’t enough and Yorkshire went on to score two more tries by powering through the heart of the Rhinos defence. Making the final score 26-38 to the Yorkshire side.
