Four tries from Sophie Robinson aided Leeds Rhinos Women in a dominant 80-0 win over league strugglers York City Knights.

Back at Sports Park Weetwood, following their 58 point overhauling of Wakefield Trinity, the Rhinos were alert from the kickoff.

Suze Hill got the scoring underway in the opening minutes. A break from Courtney Hill put Leeds within striking range of their opponent’s line and with an offload from centre partner Madison Laverick, Hill stepped inside to touch the ball down.

Lois Forsell doubled her teams lead with only ten minutes gone. A forced drop out allowed Leeds to pressurise the York line and with a play down the left, Forsell darted through to score. Hill converted making the score 12-0.

The Rhinos captain was to play a role in the next try too. Following a penalty for holding down, a break from dummy half and a pass by Forsell put prop Dannielle Anderson through to score under the posts.

If the fans weren’t entertained enough, a hat-trick from Sophie Robinson on the run into halftime sealed a convincing first half performance. A 40 metre intercept from the centre exposed York’s lack of attacking prowess as well as their weak defence, throwing a blind pass for Robinson to take and score. Sophie’s second was set up by the Rhinos half back Hanna Butcher, as she sent the flying winger away again to score.

Robinson rounded off her hat trick after Rhiannion Marshall reclaimed the ball for Leeds on York’s ten metre line. A wide pass was again thrown by Butcher to Robinson who crashed over to score her third in five minutes. Courtney Hill slotted the conversion making the half time score 34-0.

Leeds weren’t going to give up in the second half as a further eight tries sliced up the Knights’ defence. Marshall used a flat ball from dummy half to sprint away and score before Aimee Stavely also took advantage of a short Forsell pass to crash over.

Courtney Hill took the Rhinos past 50 points with her first of the afternoon. A break down the right left Hill in plenty of space as the Aussie outpaced the defence to score. Converting her own try, Hill put the score to 52-0.

Sophie Robinson capped off a brilliant display as she went in for her fourth try. Another interception on her own goal line sent Robinson away again. Beating Natalie Carr for pace, the centre continued under the sticks to score.

Caitlin Beevers took note as she also sprinted 80 metres, from the kick off, to score. Frankie Townend got her name on the scoresheet as her squirt out of dummy half put Leeds up to 70 points.

In the final 10 minutes, Courtney Hill completed her double. A kick ahead wasn’t dealt with by Bettie Lambert and a further kick from Hill sent the ball in-goal before she touched down. Sophie Nuttal rounded off the afternoons scoring affair as she took a pass from Townend to slip into the corner. Hill missed the conversion but it was no matter as Leeds had kept their opponents scoreless, the final score 80-0.

Speaking after the game four try hero, Sophie Robinson said: “It was really pleasing and it was nice to get over for the tries but more importantly I think as a team we put in a really great performance, we’ve been working hard this week and we knew York have been struggling but we wanted to set our standard and not get complacent, so overall I’m really pleased.”
