Leeds Rhinos Women 70 Featherstone Rovers Ladies 6

Courtney Hill got the game under way as the Rhinos kicked to the visitors. The kick bouncing out on the 30 and giving Leeds some unexpected early possession, the Rhinos immediately on the front foot, Forsell and Hill scheming out on the right as they put Size Hill into the corner on the 3rd tackle, Courtney Hill driving the kick home to give Leeds a 6-0 lead within the 1st minute.

 

Leeds grabbed their second of the game after a well executed set play,  Marshall for Butcher and Butcher quickly onto Manina Spurr who surged for the line to score on the left edge, Hill unable to convert this time.

 

Leeds got back to back, the unpredicatble Lois Forsell once more untouchable out of dummy half, on the 2nd tackle coming back into the play the ball area and bursting through a gap, rounding the fullback to score under the posts, Hill with her 2nd successful conversion and take Leeds to a 16-0 lead.

 

Featherstone were firing up in defence, inspired by a huge shot from Jaz Bell, but the Rhinos kept coming as Aimee Staveley burst onto a flat pass from Forsell to charge over with three on her back, Hill converting once more to make it 22-0.

 

A flurry of errors saw Featherstone become their own worst enemies handing Leeds possession before giving a away a penalty on the last tackle  for second go, Leeds kicking to the 10 metre line. 4 tackles into the set, Forsell would fire a cut out pass across the face of three players and into the hands of Caitlin Beevers who would step inside her winger and dive over, Hill unable to convert from the wing.

 

A penalty was be given for a high shot on a rampaging Aimee Staveley, the penalty would put Leeds within striking distance once more as Charlotte Booth went close quickly followed by a Lois Forsell show and go to score to the left of the posts, Hill unable to convert and the sides went into the half at 30-0.

 

Leeds did not get off to the best start to proceedings in the second half, pulled for a forward pass just 2 plays into their first set, quickly followed by Tilly Churn opening the scoring for the Rovers and the half, the number 12 bursting through a gap and swerving inside Charlotte Booth to score, the kick converted.

 

Leeds attempted a short kick off but unfortunately there was just too much on Courtney Hill’s kick as it went out on the full. Featherstone would try and make the most of the field position, the Rhinos holding out as Tilly Churn was held up on the final tackle. Leeds would go into attack immediately, the ball moved to Sophie Robinson making plenty of metres down the left but halted 20 metres out, Courtney Hill, then weaving and jinking her way through the line to score under the posts, Hill converting her own try.

 

Leeds’ goal line defence was more up to the task denying; Senior, Hazel and Smith as close as 3 metres out, they would be rewarded for their defensive effort as Leeds went down the other end and scored, Dannielle Anderson charging through the Rovers defensive line from 15 metres out to ground the ball, Hill converting 42-6.

 

Anderson had the first drive of the next set, making in excess of 30 metres and setting the platform for another Leeds try, Forsell grubbering through on the last for Frankie Townend to drop on out to the right, Hill on target from the wing once more for the Rhinos as they began to open a substantial margin.

 

Leeds struck again with 10 minutes to play, Robinson going on one of her trademark searching runs before being clawed down, the Rhinos then moving the ball down the left to Beevers to grab her second of the game, Hill unable to convert from wide on the left.

 

Suze Hill had her second of the game as the Rhinos capitalized on a quick play the ball from a Courtney Hill break, Booth receiving the ball out on the right before putting Hill into the corner, Courtney Hill adding the extras from the right as Leeds took a commanding 58-6 lead.

 

Lois Forsell completed her hat-trick after the Rhinos speed once more left tiring bodies in the ruck, Forsell’s quick pick and go from 20 metres out extending the Rhinos dominance on the scoreboard further, Hill converting again to make it 64-6.

 

Featherstone looked to be in for a certain try as a Leeds attacking kick took a favourable bounce for the visitors and Chloe Reynolds was away , the Rovers winger denied by a superb covering tackle from Charlotte Booth to force her over the touchline.

 

Amy Johnson scoring on the final whistle after linking up with Manina Spurr to crash over from close range, Hill kicking the goal to give Leeds a near flawless  70-6 win over Featherstone.
