Leeds Rhinos U19 21 City of Hull Academy U19 24

The Rhinos lost out to the City of Hull Academy at Stanningley as they were denied a winning score late for Tommy Brierley when referee Liam Moore awarded a knock on after consultation with his touch judge.

The home side had taken the lead early on when Nyle Flynn showed great strength near the line to get over. Joe Sanderson added the conversion and then Jack Wray, playing against his home town side, increased the lead with a drop goal.

The Rhinos found themselves on the back foot after that however. Having allowed the kick off to bounce, they were then penalised for tackling the Hull player who jumped to catch the bouncing ball. The City of Hull Academy made the most of their penalty and then crossed through second row Zeus Silk to make it 7-6 at the interval.

The visitors then took the lead for the first time when Jordan Lane went over next to the posts. Reece Dean added the conversion to put his side 12-7 in front.

Leeds struck back soon after when centre Jack Norfolk dummied to pass wide before cutting back inside and handing off the last defender to score. Unfortunately the conversion was missed but the game was back in the balance at 12-11.

Hull then struck when full back Dean produced a fine piece of finishing after taking an offload 30 metres out, spotting a gap and racing through to score. He converted his own try to make it 18-11.

The young Rhinos once again refused to throw in the towel and cut the gap once again when Josh Jordan-Roberts proved too strong near the line and crashed over. Sanderson added the conversion to put his side back to within a point.

However, the visitors once again pulled clear when Dean crossed for his second try and completed his 100% night with the boot.

There was still hope for the Rhinos as Brierley raced through to latch onto the through kick in front of the referee. However, the official opted to consult with his touch judge and the score was disallowed.
