Under 16s set for season finale against Warrington

Tonight marks the final match of the Leeds Rhinos scholarship season, with Mark Butterill’s U16s side travelling to Victoria Park to face Warrington Wolves U16s, kick off 7pm.

The young Rhinos proved too good for Bradford Bulls at Emerald Headingley a fortnight ago, winning 52-0. A double from Luca Atkinson and Alfie Edgell plus further tries from Coby Nichol, Ajhani Wallace, Levi Edwards, Jonah Parsons, Joe Gibbons and Mackenzie Turner, who finished the game with an individual points tally of 14 points, ensured Leeds took away their sixth win of the season.

Butterill has named a 20-man squad to face a Wolves side who have won all four of their away games this season. Prop Atkinson is the only Leeds player to have featured in every match this season. The former West Bowling player has started six times over the campaign and will wear the number eight shirt.

Centre Max Simpson missed the win over Bradford but is included in the squad tonight. He scored a hat trick against City of Hull earlier in the season and will partner kicker Mackenzie Turner on the left edge. With Sam Little moving in at full back, Will Gatus is also reintroduced into the back line for the first time since the 32-16 win against St Helens at the end of June.

Caine Glancy, Jake Stones, Ethan Spear, Nathan Copley and Archie Patefield are all drafted back in by Butterill as they end their first season in the scholarship on the bench. Levi Edwards started against Bradford but moves back onto the bench along with Ajhani Wallace, who was among the scorers two weeks ago.
