Winger Will Gatus has played multiple sports but found his love for rugby when he won a national rugby union Under-9s tournament. Swapping codes to join rugby league side Shaw Cross Sharks and then Siddal, he won the division one title with the latter and earned a scholarship contract with Leeds.
In his first year with the Rhinos scholarship team, he played twice on the wing in wins over St Helens and Warrington Wolves – scoring his first scholarship try against the Wolves. At the end of the year, he started and scored against NSW Country Rugby League at Emerald Headingley; an experience that is Gatus’ most memorable moment. Gatus represented Yorkshire RU in 2019 and was a Yorkshire swimming champion. His brother is former Yorkshire Carnegie academy winger Joe Gatus.
His ideal occupation outside of rugby would be a banker but if he could play any be sport professionally, he would be sprinter. His favourite matchday song is ‘Pump it up’ by Endor and if he had tickets to see any sporting event in history, it would be England’s 2003 Rugby Union World Cup final win over Australia.
