Tom ‘TJ’ Barton has come a long way to reaching the Rhinos Academy this season. After defeating cancer aged four, Barton took up rugby league at local club Kippax Wolves where he won a multitude of trophies, including the Leeds and District Cup, Challenge Cup and BARLA cup.
His attacking threat at centre gained him recognition for an academy spot, which he has grasped with both hands. His earliest rugby memory is training at Kippax and he credits Rhinos captain Kallum Watkins as having the biggest influence on his career.
Off the field, Barton likes to listen to Birmingham grime rapper Mist and wants to own a Ford Focus RS car. If he could play any other sport professionally he would choose darts and would buy a house should he win the lottery.
