Sam Walters signed for the club at the start of the 2019 academy season from Widnes Vikings. The six foot six forward, who made the move with Jarrod O’Connor, is formidable running at the line and also possesses an offload game that releases players down the field. Walters started at Halton Farnworth Hornets and was soon on Widnes’ scholarship books. An impact player, Walters gained a reputation with his size and ability and was soon part of the Vikings academy as part of a ten man group.
Scoring two tries in his first Under-19s game in 2019, Walters went on to have a stand out year, winning Academy Player of the Year and scoring nine tries in fifteen starts. He also played once for Batley Bulldogs on loan, scoring against Leigh at Leigh Sports Village.
He was brought into the first team in 2020, taking the number 27 jersey.
In 2018, Walters was selected for Luke Robinson’s England Academy squad that beat Australian Schoolboys 2-0 in a historic test series win.
