Although injury has hampered the start to his development in Leeds Rhinos Academy, hooker and half back Jonah Parsons will be hoping for as much game time as possible in 2021.
On signing for the Rhinos Under-16s scholarship from West Bowling, the hooker was electric, playing seven games at both hooker and half back and scoring five tries. When he signed his academy contract with the club in 2020, Leeds Rhinos scholarship head coach Mark Butterill commented: “Jonah has pace to burn and the ability to beat defenders all over the park. His high energy running has resulted in some spectacular tries for his team.”
Soon after joining Walker’s Under-18s academy side, he scored a try on his debut against Newcastle but suffered an ACL injury which ruled him out for the season and into 2021.
Prior to joining Leeds, Parsons played his junior rugby at Batley Boys and West Bowling, where he won the Division One title. His first rugby memory came at Batley, where he got man of the match in his first game against Birstall Victoria.
