Forward Ethan Spear has worked his way into Chev Walker’s side and has hit the ground running.
Spear joined the Rhinos scholarship side in 2018 from Kippax Welfare. Along with six of his current Leeds teammates, Spear won the Castleford Cup and BARLA cup playing for the junior club before signing a two year scholarship contract. He made two appearances towards the end of his first season in the Under-16s, coming off the bench in wins against St Helens and Warrington. He was also among the substitutes in Leeds’ post season game against NSW Country Rugby League, which he regards as his most memorable rugby moment.
In 2021, he made a great impression in his first appearance against London Broncos Under-17s, scoring a try in the 44-24 win. He was introduced Walker’s Under-19s against Newcastle Thunder and put in a good performance from the bench.
The prop was part of the side that won the year 11 Leeds and Hunslet Schools Cup final. He is also related to former Castleford, Wigan and Great Britain international Tony Smith through his mum.
