From an early age it was clear that Chev Walker was destined to become a great player for the Rhinos and the centre certainly lived up to his potential. Making his debut at just 16 against Halifax (the youngest ever player to make his debut for Leeds Rhinos in the Super League era), Chev went onto be an instrumental part of the Rhinos squad that ended a 32 year wait for the Championship in 2004.

That year Chev was at the top of his game, recording a personal best of 19 tries in 26 appearances, with some outstanding performances that helped Leeds on their way to Old Trafford to face Bradford in the Grand Final. The following season he was once again in top form with 18 tries in 33 appearances; this included a try against Canterbury Bulldogs when the Rhinos secured the Carnegie World Club Challenge for the first time in their history.
Chev’s final season for the Rhinos was amazingly his eighth in Super League despite only being 24 in his last appearance, which came against Warrington in the Play Off match at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

Chev was often suggested as a player who would be able to make the successful transition into Rugby Union and in 2005 he took the opportunity to sign for Premiership side Bath. In his Leeds career he made 183 appearances, 24 of these were as a substitute and scored 86 tries, four hat tricks and a four try haul against Castleford at Headingley in 2004.

Chev played in all five games for England in the 2000 World Cup and was one of the shining lights for England in the World Cup, especially for making his debut against Australia against Wendell Sailor in the opening game at Twickenham.

In 2001 Chev toured with the England Under 21 side and was a try scorer in both games against South Africa. In the Home Internationals competition that year Chev represented England in the 42-33 win over Wales and also played for Yorkshire in the Origin game, where Yorkshire were defeated 24-36. 2002 saw the England A side play New Zealand and Chev was the only try scorer in the 12-34 defeat. Capping off a great domestic season Chev also made his Great Britain debut off the bench in 2004 against Australia in the opening game of the Tri Nations.

The following season he was once again involved in the Tri Nations series and put in an outstanding performance in the Lions’ victory over New Zealand scoring a try in the 38-12 win.

He returned to the thirteen man code with Hull KR in 2008 where he spent three seasons. However a serious injury suffered at Headingley in the play offs in 2009 had a major impact on his time in East Yorkshire. Walker joined Bradford Bulls ahead of the 2011 season and spent the next five years at the Provident Stadium, Odsal before announcing his retirement in 2015.

He returned to his first club in 2017 to team up with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation on a new project that aimed to engage high school children who otherwise would not come into contact with the game with Rugby League. He later became an assistant coach of the first team and in 2020, was announced as the head coach of the Leeds Rhinos academy.
