Brett Ferres returned to Leeds Rhinos in September 2020 on loan, initially for a month, from Featherstone Rovers. Ferres had played four seasons at the Rhinos between 2016 and 2019, winning the Grand Final in his second campaign before leaving the club to play in the Championship with Featherstone.

However, the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic meant all rugby outside of Super League was cancelled for the season and Ferres returned to the Rhinos on loan with James Harrison to bolster Richard Agar's squad. Ferres made his second debut for the club, wearing squad number 40, in the 13-12 win over his former club Huddersfield Giants at the Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens on 11th September 2020.

Originally, Ferres signed for the Rhinos four weeks ahead of the 2016 season from the Giants and made his debut on the opening day of the season against Warrington.  He was a mainstay in the first team squad, appearing 26 times, with only injuries keeping out of the side. After fighting back from an injury at the start of 2017 Brett returned to play in the club’s Super 8s games and the Grand Final win against Castleford Tigers.

The Rhinos were Brett’s fifth Super League club and before joining Leeds he made over 250 appearances in Super League.  He started his career at Bradford Bulls in 2005, making nine appearances in his debut season and was the regular goal kicker for the senior academy, a side he also captained, scoring 17 tries in only 17 appearances for the under-21s.

In 2006 he won the World Club Challenge with the Bulls against Wests Tigers but left Bradford the following year to join Wakefield as part of the deal that took David Solomona to the Bulls. After two seasons at the Wildcats, he moved to Castleford Tigers where he continued his career progression.

His move to Huddersfield Giants in July 2012 saw him produce the best form of his career and in 2013 he was named in the Super League Dream Team as Huddersfield lifted the League Leaders Shield.

The forward played in all three of England's Tests against New Zealand in the Autumn and was man of the match when England defeated New Zealand in the opening test in November when he scored two tries after coming off the bench at Hull having scored a hat-trick in the 84-4 warm-up thrashing of France the week before Ferres was a member of the England Academy side that toured Australia and New Zealand in 2004 and he has now won caps for England in 2006 against France, Tonga and Samoa in the 2006 Federation Shield tournament.

In 2013 he was called up to Steve McNamara's World Cup squad and featured in every game for England and was named in the 2016 England squad but was forced to pull out with a calf injury.
