A Rugby League legend, Danny Buderus arrived at the Rhinos in 2009 from his only other club, Newcastle Knights.

He made his debut in the NRL in 1997, under former Rhinos player and coach Malcolm Reilly, against South Queensland. With the Knights sitting in the top five of the table over the next three years, the hooker was then a Grand Final winner, capping a tremendous season with a sterling performance in Newcastle’s Grand Final win over Parramatta. He was selected for Australia’s Kangaroo squad off the back of the result, winning a total of 24 caps for his country and scoring four tries.

His standing as one of the best hookers of all time is bolstered by his 2004 Dally M medal, plus three Dally M Hooker of the Year awards (2002, 2004 and 2005) and captain of New South Wales' back-to-back Origin wins. He debuted for his state in 2002 and in 2005 he led them to a 2-1 victory over Queensland in the State of Origin Series, their third in a row since 2003. He made 21 appearances, which is a record for most consecutive appearances for the side, 15 of these were as captain.

Buderus joined the Rhinos in 2009 making his debut against Wakefield on 13th February 2009 and earning heritage number 1377. Leeds would be the only club he played for other than his beloved Newcastle Knights, racking up 83 appearances and 15 tries for the Rhinos. Typically of the Champion man he is, Buderus bowed at a winner at Leeds in the 2011 Grand Final before returning to the Knights for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

In 2019, Buderus was inducted into the NRL Hall of Fame alongside two time Grand Final winner Craig Young, 2002 Golden Boot winner Stacey Jones and former New Zealand captain Ruben Wiki.
