Legendary player Lois Forsell made history as Leeds Rhinos' first-ever women's captain and became the first female Head Coach of the side in 2020.

Forsell began playing with her local club, East Leeds when she was seven years old and went on to play for Middleton and Hunslet Hawks before playing for Bradford Bulls in the inaugural Super League season in 2017, where she won the Challenge Cup, League Leaders Shield and Grand Final. Internationally, she made the first of her 18 appearances for England in 2009 and went on to play in the 2013 World Cup and was Vice Captain in the 2017 World Cup.

In 2018, she helped launch the first-ever Women's team in her home town and as captain,  led the Rhinos to Challenge Cup success against Castleford and the League Leaders title, as well as an appearance in the club's first Grand Final. Particularly in the Challenge Cup Final, Forsell was named Player of the Match as she scored the match-winning try to give Leeds its first ever Women's Rugby League silverware, plus she was also nominated for the first Woman of Steel award, named the 2019 Sportswoman of the Year at the Leeds Sports Awards and in 2018 became the sport's first-ever National Women's Player Ambassador.

An ACL injury suffered during a match against St Helens in 2018 forced the England international to retire from playing the game but in February 2020, she took over as head coach of the Rhinos Women's side, following the departure of Adam Cuthbertson. Despite the Covid pandemic cancelling the Women' season, 2021 and 2022 saw the Rhinos come roaring back under Forsell as she led the club back to consecutive Grand Finals, including winning the 2022 Final against York, as well as a Challenge Cup Final at Elland Road in 2022. For her efforts, she was rewarded with the Women's Coach of the Year award.

2023 was another big year for Forsell and the Rhinos too as the club competed for the Challenge Cup and Grand Final titles again. A spotless Cup campaign saw Forsell walk Leeds out at Wembley in the first Women's Cup Final to be played at the national stadium, plus a strong run at the end of the season saw them reach the Grand Final again.

Alongside her playing and coaching commitments, Forsell has worked with Leeds Rhinos Foundation since 2012 as their Women and Girls Development Officer to develop and grow the game in Leeds. The impact of her work has been evident as the likes of Caitlin Beevers, who was one of the founding players of the Women's team in 2018, Fran Goldthorp, who has gone on to play in the NRLW for North Queensland, and this year's young player of the year Caitlin Casey have all be coached and developed by Forsell in their school or club and in the Rhinos Academy.
