Liam Sutcliffe joined the Rhinos from Hunslet Warriors to make his debut as a teenager in 2013.
Initally coming through as a half back, Sutcliffe was a rising star in the Rhinos Academy system, before making his debut in 2013 against St Helens. During his debut campaign, he made 18 appearances (11 starts and 7 off the bench) in his debut season and followed that up in 2014 with a place in the Challenge Cup Final team that defeated Castleford at Wembley.
He was in outstanding form in 2015 before injury ended his season after 15 games, however he returned in 2016 to become a regular first teamer again. During a testing campaign, he was one of the side's top points scorers and played 31 times, including in the World Club Challenge defeat to North Queensland Cowboys and the entire Qualifiers campaign as the Rhinos retained their Super League status.
2017 brought more trophy success as another top campaign saw Sutcliffe record his highest number of points in a single season for Leeds and lift his first Grand Final trophy. One of his finest moments of the year came in the Super League semi-final clash against Hull FC when he scored the game-sealing try to book the Rhinos' place at Old Trafford.
He remained present for the 2018 and 2019 campaigns, which saw him move into the centres for the first time. Having survived the Qualifiers again in 2018 and finished the following season promisingly, 2020 proved to be another big season for Sutcliffe. Despite the Covid pandemic breaking up the regular season, he played in every game on the road to Leeds running out at Wembley in the Challenge Cup Final, and was named amongst the starters in the 17-16 win over Salford.
Signing a new deal at the end of the 2020 season, Sutcliffe helped the Rhinos to a top-six finish but missed the Play Offs due to injury. He didn't miss a moment in 2022 though, playing centre, full back and scrum half under Richard Agar and then Rohan Smith as he scored 11 tries. Three of his tries came in a huge Play Off win on the road against Catalans Dragons as the Rhinos marched on to Old Trafford, where Sutcliffe played in the centres in defeat to St Helens.
Alongside a long career at the Rhinos, Sutcliffe also made appearances for Bradford and Featherstone on loan and dual registration. 2022 was his last season at the club as he moved on to Hull FC from 2023.
Internationally, he was capped for England in 2018 against France having previously played for the England Knights.
