Leeds Rhinos recorded their biggest win of the season over Hull FC as the Rhinos ran 10 tries passed the black and whites in a convincing 68-8 result at AMT Headingley.

In a polar opposite result to the one a week earlier, where Brodie Croft helped the Rhinos escape with the two league points against London, Brad Arthur’s side were clinical for the full 80 minutes as man of the match Alfie Edgell's four tries led the scoring.

One change for the Rhinos saw Mikolaj Oledzki come back into the side after missing the last four games due to injury. The prop’s inclusion saw Sam Lisone drop to the bench and Tom Nicholson-Watton be named 18th man.

Five tries in the first half kicked off with Harry Newman getting the first score of the game on 11 minutes.

The opening stages belonged to Leeds as they quickly established an 8-0 lead inside of 10 minutes. After James McDonnell was unlucky not to connect with a grubber kick from Andy Ackers, a high shot on Brodie Croft saw Rhyse Martin get his first chance with the boot as he slotted a penalty goal to edge the Rhinos ahead.

The fire was lit from that point on as the home side got their opening four points of the night on the ten minute mark. Keeping the play alive on the last tackle, the Rhinos managed to get the ball into the grasp of Croft, who’s cross-field kick was weighted to perfection for Newman to take and score.

Hull quickly became frustrated with their lack of possession and chances, and their ill-discipline proved costly on the scoreboard. A ball steal on Martin allowed Leeds to move into scoring range, and Croft took advantage as he fed Oledzki through the line and the prop held the ball up enough to offload to skipper Cameron Smith, who touched down for his first try since the win over Hull at the MKM Stadium back in April.

A night to remember for Alfie Edgell began on the 29th minute as the winger was the beneficiary of a slick scrum play that saw the young winger touch down in the corner for his first of four tries on the night.

Jed Cartwright’s first sin binning of the night played into Leeds’ hands too as James Bentley proved fatal close to the try line as the back rower crashed over for his first try of the year to make the score 26-0. One last opportunity before the half time whistle saw Brodie Croft and Lachie Miller combine down the short side as Croft showed great footwork to take the Leeds lead to 32 points at the break.

The Rhinos didn’t take their foot off the gas in the second half either, despite conceding just one try

Inside the first five minutes after the break, Leeds were back over the try line as Edgell was the beneficiary of another crafted scrum play on a field day for the winger. Martin, who had a perfect night off the kicking tee, slotted the conversion and stepped up to kick his second penalty goal off the back of a high shot on Lisone.

As they closed in on 50 points on the scoreboard, Croft continued to inspire with a break that should have seen Miller score, but frantic defence caught the full back. Not panicking, Croft showed composure to flick a ball over the top and Edgell had try number three.

Harvey Barron got a consolation effort for the visitors, but normal service resumed when Edgell scored try number four to make the score 52-6 on the hour mark.

In between two more penalty goals for Martin before full time, Croft snuck over for his second of the night; the half back sliding over from 10 metres out to get his second try. The game’s final act was given to Bentley though as the home side concluded a memorable night under the floodlights. Cartwright’s second yellow card of the night left Hull short on numbers, and David Fusitu’a used it to full advantage with a break down the left edge. Although the play came to nothing immediately, the Rhinos were ready to pounce close to the try line as Bentley crashed over from short range again to get his first brace since 2022.

The final moment of the match was rightfully handed to one of the club’s departing stars, James Donaldson, who stepped up to kick the final conversion of the night to make the final score 68-6.
