McCormack commits his future to Leeds Rhinos with new three-year deal

Leeds Rhinos are delighted to announce that Fergus McCormack has signed a new three-year contract extension, securing his future at AMT Headingley until at least the end of the 2029 Betfred Super League season.

The new agreement represents a further commitment to one of the club’s exciting young talents, who has progressed through the Rhinos’ development system to establish himself in the first-team environment.

A product of the club’s youth pathway, McCormack joined the Leeds Rhinos Scholarship after beginning his rugby league journey with Guiseley Rangers and Dudley Hill. He progressed through the Academy and was named Academy Player of the Year in 2024.

After overcoming an injury-disrupted 2025 campaign, McCormack made his senior debut against Widnes Vikings in the Challenge Cup in February 2026. He subsequently took his opportunity in the first team, featuring at full-back during the Super League campaign and scoring the first try of his senior career against Toulouse. He was named the club’s young player of the year for 2026, winning the Bev Risman OBE Award.

The extension ensures that McCormack will continue his development at the club where he has spent his formative rugby league years, as the Rhinos look to build for the future.

Fergus McCormack said, “I’m really pleased to have signed a new deal and commit my future to Leeds Rhinos. This club has been a huge part of my journey so far, and I’m grateful for the opportunities and support I’ve had since joining the Scholarship.

“Making my senior debut and getting the chance to play in the first team has been a big moment for me. I know there is still plenty of hard work ahead, and I’m determined to keep improving, learn from the experienced players around me and make the most of every opportunity.

“Leeds is where I want to be. Playing at AMT Headingley in front of our supporters is something special, and I’m excited about what we can achieve together over the coming years.”

Head Coach Brad Arthur said, “Fergus has shown a great attitude towards his development and has worked hard to put himself in a position to compete for opportunities in the first team.

“He has come through the club’s system, understands what it means to represent Leeds Rhinos and has demonstrated that he is prepared to learn and improve. His versatility is another positive, and he has shown he can step in and contribute when called upon.

“I think Chev Walker has done a tremendous job with Fergus helping him to transition to the first team whilst Scott Grix and Lachie Miller have helped him settle into the full back role.

“This extension gives Fergus the opportunity to keep developing in an environment that knows him well. The next step is to continue working hard, build consistency and make the most of the opportunities that come his way.”

Sporting Director Ian Blease said, “Retaining talented young players who have progressed through our own development system is an important part of our long-term strategy.

“We have seen the progress he has made and it is pleasing to see him beginning to realise his potential at senior level.

“This new deal reflects our belief in Fergus and our desire to give young players a clear pathway into the first team. We look forward to seeing him continue his development in the blue and amber over the coming seasons.”
