Chris Hankinson agrees new Leeds Rhinos contract extension

Leeds Rhinos are delighted to announce that Chris Hankinson has agreed a new contract extension that will keep him at AMT Headingley until at least the end of the 2028 Betfred Super League season.

The experienced second row has committed his future to the Rhinos, extending his stay with the club and becoming an important part of Head Coach Brad Arthur’s plans for the seasons ahead.

Hankinson has established himself as a valuable member of the Rhinos squad, bringing experience, versatility and a strong work ethic to the team. His new deal provides further continuity as Leeds continue to build towards their long-term ambitions in Betfred Super League.

Speaking after agreeing the extension, Hankinson said: “I’m really pleased to have got this deal done and to know that I’ll be staying at Leeds through to the end of 2028. I was contracted for next year but it is great to be able to look further into the future with confidence.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club and I feel like there is something special being built here. The ambition of everyone around the team is clear and I want to be part of that.

“Leeds is a fantastic club with an incredible fanbase, and playing at AMT Headingley is something I never take for granted. I’m looking forward to the next few years, working hard with the boys and hopefully bringing some success to the club.”

Hankinson joined Leeds Rhinos in 2025 from Salford, initially playing at centre and winger but this season, since his move to the second row at Easter, he has become an integral member of the pack. Interestingly, since his move to the forwards, he has scored 12 tries this season which is his highest ever season tally in Super League and only one short of best ever season with Barrow Raiders a decade ago.

Head Coach Brad Arthur welcomed the extension, saying, “Chris is an important part of what we’re building here at Leeds.

“He brings experience and professionalism to the group, and he understands what it takes to perform consistently at this level. We have seen this year with his move into second row, that he has become a key player for us in that position but he also offers so much versatility if things need to change during a game.

“Keeping players of Chris’s quality and character is important for us as we look to develop the team over the coming seasons. I’m pleased he’s committed his future to the Rhinos and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

“From the outset, Chris has shown the qualities we want to see in a Leeds Rhinos player. He is committed, professional and determined to contribute to the team, both on and off the field.
