Rowing fundraising team heading for another milestone

The four man crew of the Row4MND challenge are heading for another milestone as they round the north Scottish coastline on their way to the finish line on the Scottish East coast. 

Leeds Rhinos fans will remember the crew from our MND Awareness game against Hull KR earlier this season when fans had the chance to see the boat in the South Stand and hear from the guys on the pitch before the game. 

The team have faced challenges as they head for the finish line of this leg of their epic challenge as they rounded the appropriately named Cape Wrath. The team knew the tides would turn against them just as they were getting there, but attempted to punch through them at slack water, as the tides were turning, but even then the tidal rips were too strong to row in to, even when they had three people on the oars!

Realising they couldn't make it to the point, they headed back three miles to a bay they had identified when planning the route which they knew offered some shelter, a break for food, and an opportunity for a 'luxurious' long sleep of 2.5 hours. Then at 05:00, they lifted anchor and headed back to make another attempt, this time with tide in their favour.

The completion of the journey around Great Britain is the first half of a four year challenge for the team. Next year, the plan is to row from California to Hawaii before a huge finish in 2028 rowing from New York to London. 

From everyone at the Rhinos, good luck lads and we hope the tides are with you on the home stretch. If they are successful in circumnavigating the whole of Great Britain, it is estimated that fewer than 100 people to have ever completed the challenge by rowing which overs nearly 2,000 miles.
