Littlewood commits future to Leeds Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos are delighted to announce that Ben Littlewood has signed a new three-year contract extension that will keep the forward at AMT Headingley until at least the end of the 2029 Betfred Super League season.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable rise since first making the switch from rugby union to rugby league, having initially begun his league journey with Lock Lane and then Oulton Raiders before joining the Rhinos’ pathway in 2022.

A powerful and athletic second row, Littlewood made his Super League debut against Wigan Warriors in 2024 and has continued to develop through the Rhinos’ academy, reserves and senior squads. His progress has included gaining valuable experience through loan and dual-registration opportunities. He made his first senior start for the Rhinos in Sunday’s 42-12 win over Bradford Bulls at AMT Headingley.

After overcoming significant injury setbacks early in his career, Littlewood returned to senior contention in 2025 and has continued to impress the Rhinos coaching staff with his work ethic, resilience and willingness to learn.

Head Coach Brad Arthur said: “Ben has a great attitude and willingness to learn. We had no hesitation to bring him into the team this week when Chris Hankinson was injured. Before he picked up an injury in the game, I thought he was going great and I am sure he will be pushing again before the end of the season for selection. 

“Every level he has gone up, he has shown that he listens, takes things on board and is able to put what he learns into his performances. He has had setbacks, but he has stayed patient and worked hard. He is on the right path.”

Sporting Director Ian Blease added: “Ben’s journey in such a short space of time has been remarkable. He came into the club from a different code and had to learn the game, but we could quickly see that there was a real player and a real prospect there.

“Securing his future is another important step in our commitment to developing young talent and building a team capable of challenging at the highest level.”

Littlewood said: “I’m really pleased to have signed this extension and to know I’ll be staying at the Rhinos until at least 2029.

“I’ve always been grateful for the coaches and everyone who has helped me along the way. Coming from rugby union, then playing at Lock Lane and getting the opportunity to come into the Rhinos system, it has been a massive journey for me.

“There have been some great moments and some setbacks as well, but I’ve just tried to keep learning and keep improving. I’m really grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
