Getting to know: Huddersfield Giants
Friday night sees Huddersfield Giants enter round eight of the Betfred Super League full of confidence as Liam Finn looks to guide his side to a third consecutive win when Leeds visit the ACCU Stadium, kick off 8pm.
Here's a look closer look at the Giants:
Key Playmakers
Adam Clune
Club Apps: 34 | Club Tries: 6
Back in action against Wigan at the end of March after an injury-troubled 2025, captain Clune's impact has been evident as the Giants have two wins with the half back in the lineup.
Signed to reinvent Huddersfield's attack from Newcastle Knights, Clune enjoyed a mixed first season in claret and gold as he scored four tries in 26 games in his debut season, before hamstring troubles restricted him to six games in 2025. More issues at the start of 2026 kept the former St George Dragon sidelined too, but he wasted little time in announcing himself back on the Super League scene with tries against both Wigan and York in the last three weeks. This week's game will be the third time Clune has faced the Rhinos, having scored the game-deciding try in a 30-24 score at AMT Headingley in 2024.
Jacob Gagai
Club Apps: 35 | Club Tries: 17
A move into the outside backs seems to have worked wonders for Gagai, who is enjoying a strong second campaign in Huddersfield colours.
Signed as a full back initially after playing 17 times for South Sydney Rabbitohs, he ended a disappointing 2025 season with 11 tries in 26 outings, but has kick-started his 2026 campaign with six tries already in all competitions. In the last two league games against York and Wigan, Gagai has set season-record highs for tackle breaks, metres, carries and line breaks as he currently sits 10th in the league for total line breaks (six breaks) and fifth in tackle breaks (35 breaks). Before arriving at Huddersfield, Gagai featured for Central Queensland Capras, Newcastle Reserves and Souths Reserves in the Queensland Cup, whilst he added nine senior tries for the Bunnies in 2024.
Asher O'Donnell
Club Apps: 9 | Club Tries: 1
O'Donnell's arrival as one of five new names in the Huddersfield squad has paid off so far as the back rower has been ever-present since his move from Brisbane Tigers.
The 22-year-old has cut his teeth with Mackay and Brisbane in the Queensland Cup with 39 appearances and 11 tries between 2023 and 2025, but his move to Super League has seen the O'Donnell lead on the defensive front for the Giants as he ranks eighth in the league for tackles with 236. Amongst his team mates, he is also one of the leading metre makers (663) and tackle breakers (17) as he continues to settle into the first of a two-year deal at the club.
George Flanagan Jr
Club Apps: 30 | Club Tries: 16
Flanagan is one of the league's major rising stars after the Bradford Bulls junior made a headline-making move to join the Giants in 2022. Highly praised during his time in the Bulls Academy system, Huddersfield jumped early to secure Flanagan's services in the wake of Will Pryce's departure to the NRL and fast-forwarding to the full back's debut in 2025, the move came to fruition as he finished the year with 10 tries and 44 goals.
Even as part of a struggling Giants side, Flanagan's ability to find the try line and make space with a mixture of footwork, agility and speed has made him a danger to any opposition. Despite being sidelined since round four, he will be one to watch should he make his return on Friday.
