Rhinos welcome York Knights for home opener
Leeds Rhinos kick off their home Betferd Super League campaign against newly promoted York Knights on Friday 20th February, kick off 8pm.
It was a dream start to their first season into the top flight for the Knights, who beat last year's Champions Hull KR in a dramatic match that sae Ata Hingano score a late drop goal to secure the win for the newcomers.
In contrast there was a disappointing start to the season for the Rhinos, losing out to Leigh Leopards on the road, despite tries from Brodie Croft and Cooper Jenkins.
Although Leeds and York have not met in Super League, there is plenty of history between the sides, with the two having played each other 126 times and Leeds winning 92 of those games. The last time they faced each other was back in the the 1985-86 season when both teams came away with the win away from home.
There are also plenty of familair faces in the Knights squad for Rhinos fans. Paul McShane, who won Player of the Match in York's opener, started his career at the Rhinos and played over 60 games for his home town club as did York winger Ben Jones-Bishop who won two Grand Finals and a World Club Challenge with the Rhinos. Also in the Knights squad are former Rhinos Justin Sangare and Jordan Thompson, plus Oli Field and Jack Smith who both came through the Rhinos Academy.
