Vince Fawcett RIP
It was with much sadness that the club learned of the passing of former player Vince Fawcett over the weekend after a long battle with illness.
Leeds-born winger Fawcett signed for his home town club in 1987 after gaining international honours as a junior.
Fawcett played for Leeds between 1988 and 1994, making 69 appearances and scoring 22 tries.
His Leeds debut was at Headingley against Swinton on 27th March 1988 and his final game in Leeds colours was at Hull Kingston Rovers on 23rd January in 1994.
After leaving Leeds he joined Workington Town, playing 50 games for them across 1994 and 1995 and helping retain their place in the top flight in the 1994-95 season including a hat trick against his former club.
He then had a stint in the in Australia playing 14 games with Parramatta during his time there, which spanned 1995 and 1996. He is fondly remembered there for scoring 2 tries at centre against Canterbury Bulldogs in a surprise win in May 1995.
The big centre returned to England with Oldham Bears in 1997, scoring only three tries, but they all came in the same game against Challenge Cup holders, St. Helens. Fawcett went on to play Super League for Warrington Wolves in 1998 before finishing his career with Wakefield Trinity in 1999.
Fawcett appeared for Great Britain at under-21 level, gaining three caps at this level. He was named in England's 40-man training squad in preparation for the 1995 Rugby League World Cup, but was not included in the final squad.
On behalf of everyone at the club, we would like to send our deepest sympathies to Vince's family and friends at this time.
