Leeds Rhinos medical update
Leeds Rhinos have given a medical update following a number of injuries that were suffered in Saturday’s win over Bradford Bulls in Cameron Smith’s testimonial game.
21-year-old centre Max Simpson has suffered an ACL knee injury that will require surgery and rule him out for the remainder of the 2026 season.
Scans have confirmed that forward James McDonnell has an ankle syndesmosis injury that will rule him out for 4-6 weeks.
Leeds Rhinos captain Ash Handley left the game just before half time with a groin injury. Scans and a specialist have confirmed no serious injury with Handley set to be sidelined for two weeks to recover.
Winger Chris Hankinson suffered an open nasal fracture in the first half against the Bulls which required treatment and stitches on the day. He will be available for the opening round of the Betfred Super League season.
Maika Sivo continues his return to full fitness and is due to be available for selection in the opening rounds of the season. Jeremiah Matautia is recovering from a minor knee injury suffered in training and is due back in training in the coming weeks. Keenan Palasia has returned to training this week. Full back Alfie Edgell has had surgery on the quad injury he sustained on Boxing Day and is set to be back in 12 weeks.
