Rhinos secure coaching team
Leeds Rhinos have secured both their assistant coaches, Jamie Langley and Scott Grix, on new two year contract extensions to keep them both at AMT Headingley until at least the end of the 2028 Betfred Super League season, extending their commitment to the club and strengthening the continuity within the coaching and performance team ahead of the new season.
Grix, 41, joined the Rhinos full time at the start of the 2023 season and has been an integral part of Brad Arthur’s backroom team since the Australian arrived at the club in 2024.
Jamie Langley, 41 returned to Rugby League a year ago with the Rhinos from Sale Sharks. The former Great Britain international had originally started coaching at London Broncos before his move to the Sharks.
Grix commented, “I’m excited to be part of us taking the next step and to be eent more competitive again in 2026. We’ve got great continuity in the staff and the playing group, and we’re already seeing in pre-season that we’re picking up where we left off.
“It’s a really collaborative environment, and everyone is heading in the same direction. I love that I’ve been part of this group for a few years now and I’m looking forward to pushing boundaries, challenging each other and being part of what comes next.”
Assistant Coach Jamie Langley said he was pleased to extend his stay and continue working with the squad. “I’m really pleased to be continuing with the Rhinos. We’ve got a brilliant group of players who are hungry to improve, and a coaching team that is aligned and driven. The foundations we’ve laid give us a real platform for success, and I’m excited for what the next three years can bring.”
Head Coach Brad Arthur welcomed the news, emphasising the stability and shared vision the renewed deals provide. “Scott and Jamie are outstanding operators and key leaders in our environment. Their knowledge, energy and connection with the players are huge assets. Chev Walker has done a great job in his role as Transition Coach bringing through our young players into the first team squad whilst Adam Magretton and Charlie Venables ensure that our players are in the best physical condition. Our medical team, led by Dave Ferguson, have done great work ensuring our players are available for selection when required whilst John Fletcher is a real asset to all the coaches leading our analysis.”
Sporting Director Ian Blease praised both coaches for their impact and the vital role they play in the club’s long-term development. “We’re delighted that Scott and Jamie have committed to new contracts. Their professionalism and expertise have been instrumental in the team’s progression, particularly in bringing through young talent and driving high standards across the board. Stability in quality people is essential, and these extensions reflect our belief in the coaching team we’ve assembled.”
The Rhinos have also welcomed Marlon Billy as the club’s new Head of Player Welfare, who joins from Huddersfield Giants having held a similar position at Salford Red Devils prior to that. He will be replacing Nigel O’Flaherty-Johnson, who is has moved to Ireland. Academy physio Charlie Lowrie has also been promoted to the first team medical team with the Rhinos having previously confirmed that Mark Butterill will take up a new role as Head of Pathways Talent ID and Darren Higgins as the club’s new Head of Youth.
Former Leeds Academy graduate Simon Brown has been appointed the club’s new Scholarship Coach for next season. Brown will continue to be assistant to Chev Walker with the Academy and Reserves team.
Ian Blease added, “I would like to welcome our new additions to our coaching group, who will add to the talented team we already have. Having continuity within our backroom staff enables us to build for the future whilst also adding talent to the group when opportunities arise."
