Sinfield earns praise across the country for epic challenge
Kevin SInfield and his 7 in team completed their 7 in 7: Together Challenge on Sunday at AMT Headingley and across the week, SInfield earned praise from high profiles atheletes and individuals. Here's what some of them had to say.
Kevin, huge congratulations on nearing the finish of your incredible 7 in 7 challenge! Your commitment to Rob and everyone affected by MND is truly inspiring. Thank you for shining a light on the need for research and support, and for the hope and example you bring. Look after those knees!
HRH Prince William
I'm glad I'm here. It's taken me four hours yesterday to get here, but these guys are going to be on the road for seven days in all sorts of weather, so it's the least I can do. The people of Suffolk have been amazing for me, and they've been brilliant today for these guys.
Marcus Stewart, ex-Ipswich Town footballer
I was meeting a hero really. I used to go and watch Leeds at the rugby on a Sunday when I played at Leeds United. I would take my family along when we had played on a Saturday. I have watched Kev on the tele but never met him. What he has done is absolutely incredible, the power of sport on and off the sport is absolutely incredible. And I really admire what he's doing. I was quite nervous meeting someone at that level, especially when you’ve never met him before.
Gordon Strachan, former Scotland and Leeds United footballer
I feel absolutely exhausted. These guys are machines, Kev is ridiculous and Sheffield is obviously very hilly so it was a tough route but really good fun. I think that’s the most amazing thing when you’re running that kind of distance that they are all running every day, the community, the people on the street, the kids, my daughter’s school was out on the side of the road, just the excitement and the buzz that they bring makes such a big difference.
Jessica Ennis-Hill, Olympic gold medallist
Kevin is an inspiration. I think he brings everybody with him. I'll do my very best and try and keep up with him. It's wonderful to be back in Cumbria and, as Kev has said, the people of Cumbria are wonderful people as we saw so many people out on the streets for Kev and the team, which is just tremendous. What Kev and his team are doing to make the MND community feel loved and cared for is great. That's exactly what he’s done.
Steve Borthwick, England RU Head Coach
Kevin is legend on and off the field. What he's done for MND on a whole is just tremendous and phenomenal. I played under two managers that suffered and died of MND in Johnny Harris and Don Revie. It's been about long and it's about time we got rid of it.
Tony Currie, Sheffield United legend
What Kevin has done on the pitch is unquestionable, but I think the mark of the man is what he has done off it. It's been absolutely incredible to be so selfless and to give back so much for his great friend Rob. But everyone's been touched by motor neurone disease in some way. Our great teammate Paul Darbyshire, unfortunately he sadly passed away from motor neurone disease so it's something that's held high in the hearts of every Munster man and woman, boy and girl. To come out and support Kevin and give our best was a minimum that we could do.
Donncha O'Callaghan, Munster, Ireland and British & Irish Lions RU legend
