2025 Season Review: September-October
As we prepare to wave goodbye to 2025 and welcome in 2026, we're running back all the big events that took place around the club over the last twelve months.
On the run-up to the New Year, here's a look back at the events of September and October:
SEPTEMBER
With a Play Off place all but confirmed, the Rhinos solidified their top four spot at the start of September as they nilled Huddersfield Giants with three games to go in the regular season. Including the win over Hull FC at the end of August, it was the first time since 2006 that the club had nilled opponents in back-to-back games as the Giants were beaten 26-0.
Catalans proved to be a surprise in the penultimate game of the campaign as the Dragons came away from AMT Headingley with a 16-8 scoreline, before Wigan defeated a weakened Leeds outfit 22-6 in the final game of the regular season. With fourth place secured and a clash against St Helens confirmed for the first round of the play-offs, the Rhinos were full strength for their first home play-off game since 2017, but a try on the full-time whistle from Shane Wright broke Leeds hearts as their season was brought to an abrupt end.
Around the club, the end of the season also came for the Women, Men's Reserves, Under-18s Men's and Under-19s Women's Academies. Chev Walker's Reserves led the trophy haul as they claimed the club's first-ever Reserves title with a slender 8-0 win over Warrington at AMT Headingley; George Brown scoring the sole try of the game.
A week later, the Under-18s couldn't replicate the result as the Wolves claimed the Academy title after an unbeaten season. The Women's Under-19s completed a largely successful campaign too, as they ended with nine wins out of twelve matches over the course of the four-month season.
Leeds Rhinos Women had their season ended at the semi-final stage for a second consecutive year; Wigan Warriors claimed a 38-0 win on their way to sealing a historic treble.
OCTOBER
With the domestic season finished, October saw Rhinos players called up for international duty, especially in England's first Ashes series in 12 years. As Shaun Wane's side faced Australia in a three-game series, which included the third and final test being played at AMT Headingley, Leeds players Kallum Watkins, Mikolaj Oledzki and Harry Newman were all selected for their stellar performances over the course of the season, with Watkins and Oledzki playing in the Everton and Leeds tests and Newman earning selection for the finale.
Other international matches saw Leeds Rhinos Women's forwards Kaiya Glynn and Grace Field represent Scotland in their clash against Jamaica.
October was also awards season and for the fifth time in Man of Steel history, a Leeds player collected the main prize on the night as Jake Connor was awarded the Men's prize. The Rhinos club was also rewarded for its continued growth as it once again received a Grade A licence in IMG's rankings.
