Next Up: St Helens

Next up, Leeds Rhinos and St Helens meet in Betfred Super League Play Off action at AMT Headingley on Saturday night with a place in the semi finals at stake, kick off 8pm.

Here's your match preview for the fixture:

Opposition Overview

St Helens and Paul Wellens return to the Play Offs in 2025 after some ruled the Red Vee out of making the top six by round ten.

Blocking out the noise following their 17-4 loss to the Rhinos at Magic Weekend, Wellens and his side retaliated by becoming one of the competition's form teams by winning 11 of their next 13 games in Super League. Around defeat to Hull KR in round 13, Saints recorded three 40+ point wins against Catalans, Huddersfield and Salford to set the record straight before beating the Rhinos 18-4 at the Totally Wicked Stadium to move comfortably within the top six bracket. A high-scoring 58-0 triumph over Salford in round 16 buoyed the side further alongside tight wins over Hull FC and the Rhinos before Leigh got the better of Saints in a 16-4 defeat.

The Saints beat Castleford, Wakefield, Huddersfield and Hull to move them up to second place by round 23, before three losses to Hull KR, Wigan and Leigh to confirm fifth as they final spot for the season. Last time out, they managed to get past Castleford 26-24 as Chris Chester's side pushed the Red Vee close in the Tigers' final outing of the year, as they now look ahead of making the Grand Final for the first time in Wellens' tenure.

Individual performers have found their groove during Saints' season revival, including Tristan Sailor, who has 15 tries and 25 try assists during the regular season, and is Saints' top metre maker. Kyle Feldt's try-scoring credentials have followed the winger over from the NRL as he took his total for the season to 20 after scoring three times in his last two outings, plus Alex Walmsley continues to lead the side in carries and tackle busts.

Heading into the Play Offs, Saints' squad is full of players with experience of getting to major finals. Mark Percival, Jonny Lomax, Alex Walmsley, Jack Welsby, Agnatius Paasi, Matty Lees, Joe Batchelor and Jake Wingfield were all part of Kristian Woolf's side that beat Leeds in the 2022 Grand Final, along with Morgan Knowles who is in his fairwell season. Feldt is also joined by Moses Mbye and Curtis Sironen as the only players in the Saints line up with finals experience in the NRL too.
