Next Up: Wigan Warriors

Next up, Leeds Rhinos close out the Betfred Super League regular season as they head to the Brick Community Stadium to take on Wigan Warriors on Friday 19th September, kick off 8pm.

Here's your match preview for the fixture:

Opposition Overview

With one game to go before the Warriors begin the final push to retain their Grand Final title, Matt Peet's side have overcome their purple patch of the season to set themselves up for a run at a return to Old Trafford.

Leeds and Leigh were the only sides to inflict a league defeat on Wigan in the first 14 rounds of the season as the Warriors kept pace with leaders Hull KR, but an inconsistent summer period saw Peets' side - who had lost only five games throughout the whole of 2024 - lose out four times at the hands of Wakefield, Leigh, Hull FC and Hull KR across a run of eight games, as they fell behind in the race for the League Leaders' Shield.

More consistency in the last four games has seen the Warriors' form improve as they enter round 27 with 40 points and a slim chance of winning the League Leaders' Shield. 40 point wins over Wakefield and Catalans was the perfect response to their loss to the Robins, before a tight 18-4 win over St Helens and a high scoring 62-6 triumph over the Tigers last weekend means that Wigan need to beat the Rhinos by over 40 points and hope Hull KR lose out to Warrington if they want to lift the Shield for a third consecutive year.

Two tries for Jack Farrimond, Jai Field, Abbas Miski and Liam Marshall gave the Warriors a convincing two league points against Castleford last Friday night as Field took his tally for the season to 26 tries in all competitions and 24 in Super League. His tries saw the full back overtake Hull's Lewis Martin at the top of the try scorers board, whilst Marshall has also had another stellar try scoring year.
