Everything you need to know about... Warrington Wolves

There's four days to go until Leeds Rhinos are back in Betfred Super League action as Brad Arthur's side takes on Warrington Wolves at AMT Headingley, kick off 5.30pm.

Having lost their last four games against the Wolves, Leeds are looking to break that run of form and continue a current four-game winning streak. Warrington have plans of avenging their loss to Hull KR in the Challenge Cup Final at the weekend as their focus shifts onto climbing the league table.

Here's everything you need to know about our opposition, Warrington Wolves:

2025: A tale of two halves

After a semi-final appearance and third-place finish in 2024, Sam Burgess' second year in charge of Warrington has been a mixture of results after a strong start.

Opting to promote their homegrown talents alongside bringing Dan Russell and Oliver Leyland in from outside clubs, the Wolves looked set to compete at the top for another year with the likes of Matt Dufty, Matty Ashton and George Williams driving the attack. The addition of Marc Sneyd from Salford at the end of March looked only to strengthen the Wire's cause too, as the England international brought more experience to partner Williams, but Burgess has still opted to give game time to Arron Lindop, Leon Hayes, Adam Holroyd, Max Wood and Cai Taylor-Wray to push the next generation of talent into the spotlight.

On the field, a strong start saw the Wolves win seven out of nine games in all competitions. Opening with results against Whitehaven, Huddersfield and Catalans to go top of the table by the end of February, they bounced back from defeat to Wigan in Las Vegas and Wakefield the week after by going on a four game winning run against Widnes and Leeds in the league, and Widnes and St Helens in the Cup.

The last two months have been almost the polar opposite as the Wolves have struggled to find form. They've won twice in the league against St Helens and Castleford to break up losses at the hands of Wigan, Leigh, Hull FC, Wakefield and Hull KR before the Robins walked away from Wembley with silverware at the beginning of June. Now Burgess and the Wolves face a crucial set of games against the Rhinos, Huddersfield and Hull FC during the rest of June, which could decide if they can mount a Play Off challenge.

Key Names

George Williams - Marking his return to action after injury with an outing at Wembley, George Williams didn't skip a beat against the Robins in last week's defeat. As one of the top half-backs in the competition, the England international finished the game as one of the leading Warrington players in carries, plus he broke three tackles and made more metres than any other half back on the field.

Josh Thewlis - With Matt Dufty and Matty Ashton sidelined through injury, the Wolves' next threat in the outside backs is Josh Thewlis. Born down the road in Oldham, the goal-kicking winger has six tries and 18 goals to his name in 2025, including tries in his last three games in all competitions.

Paul Vaughan - Since his arrival from the NRL in 2023, the Australian international has been a weapon in offloads and tackling for the Wire. In the final year of his current deal, 2025 is no different as he leads the team in offloads with 24 (also the 4th highest in the league) and is only behind Ben Currie in tackles.
