Leeds Rhinos MND Awareness game to get national spotlight

Leeds Rhinos will take on local rivals Wakefield Trinity at AMT Headingley on Saturday 31st May in the club’s annual MND Awareness game and now the match will get national recognition as it has been selected to be shown live on BBC Two.
The kick off time has been moved back two hours to 4.30pm to allow the game to be shown on terrestrial television as well as Sky Sports with the game set to have even more significance coming just two days before the first anniversary of Rob Burrow’s passing on 2nd June 2024.
Leeds Rhinos Women will take on their counterparts Wigan Warriors in a double header of Rugby League action that day, with the Betfred Womens Super League game now kicking off at 2pm at AMT Headingley. Tickets for full day of action can be booked now at tickets.therhinos.co.uk
Leeds Rhinos Commercial Director Rob Oates commented, “I would like to thank RL Commercial, Sky Sports and the BBC for working with us to allow us to show this game to the biggest possible audience. Our MND Awareness games are always special occasions and I am sure this will be a tremendous showcase for Super League, especially coming a week before BBC’s extensive coverage of the Betfred Challenge Cup Final at Wembley.”
The Rhinos will wear a unique kit for the game, with £10 from the sale of every replica shirt donated to the MND Association across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Last year, the replica shirt produced by the club in partnership with official kit suppliers Oxen for this annual fixture raised over £80,000 which contributed to completing the fundraising for the Leeds Hospitals Charity appeal to build the Rob Burrow Centre for MND at Seacroft Hospital in Leeds.
Since the first MND awareness kit back in 2020, Rhinos official technical partner Oxen have donated £230,000 to MND charities helping to continue to bang the drum for those impacted.
The kit for 2025, which has been approved by the Burrow family, features the iconic image of Rob from the 2011 Grand Final when he scored the greatest Old Trafford try of all time to help the Rhinos to Super League glory. However, the image is made up of the names of the 196 players that Rob played with for club and country during his illustrious career and is completed by the names of Rob’s three children and his wife Lindsey for a total of 200 names.
Adult shirts are sized XS to 6XL with Ladies shirts available in sizes 8-18 for £51.99. Junior shirts and toddler kits are available for £39.99 in sizes age 6 to 14 and ages 0 to 4 respectively.
A limited number of replica shirts are available from the Club Shop at AMT Headingley Stadium and online from store.therhinos.co.uk.
Leeds Rhinos have also confirmed that their Academy game against Wakefield Trinity will now be played at AMT Headingley on Thursday 29th May, kick off 7pm.
