Everything you need to know about... St Helens

St Helens and Leeds Rhinos face off at Magic Weekend for the first time in 2025 as both club's look to bounce back from defeats when they meet at St James' Park on Saturday, kick off 7.30pm.

Here's more on our opposition, St Helens:

2025 and Magic Weekend history...

St Helens have found themselves out of form of late, but Paul Wellens' side enter round ten in the knowledge that a result in Newcastle followed by a weekend without a fixture can put the side back on track as the season approaches the halfway stage.

Since losing out to Hull KR 20-10, the side have had mixed results in all competitions, losing five of their last eight games after starting the season with a perfect four wins from four. Warrington have proved to be a particularly pointy thorn in the Red Vee's side as the Wolves have come away as victors on three occasions in the last month with a 14-12 win at the Totally Wicked Stadium, a 32-18 triumph at the Halliwell Jones and a 20-12 quarter final result to knock Saints out of the Betfred Challenge Cup. Wigan proved tricky in round eight as well as one of the in-form sides in Super League continued their run of four straight wins against their local rivals.

Wellens' trust in his young talent has come to fruition on occasions too, beating Catalans by a drop goal out in Perpignan as well as Leeds in the Cup and Wakefield in round seven. Harry Robertson, George Whitby and Dayon Sambou have been some of the names that have stepped up in recent weeks to feature weekly for the Saints, but stalwarts Jack Welsby, Jonny Lomax and Alex Walmsley still provide plenty of punch when required.

Magic Weekend is one of the stages where Saints have flourished since the weekend event first started in 2007. Saints have won nine of 17 games at Magic against eight different teams (Leeds will be their ninth different opposition), notably winning three in a row between 2017 and 2019 against Hull FC, Widnes and Castleford.
